I have been a subscriber of the streaming service of Netflix for quite some time now. During this time I have enjoyed the wide selection of movies though sometimes cursing at Netflix for buying C rated action movies. You know these Steven Segal movies where the director fast forward the fight scenes to make it look like Steven Segal is fast as lightning. It is almost embarrassing to watch. Why can he not just age gracefully? I am well aware that action movies generally is made up things that rarely happens in real life but that does not mean I want to see bad special effects or poor CGI. However this week has been great as Netflix has bought many well known and good action movies with great actors. Yes they might be 10-15 years old but they are still good. So for this weekend action is on the menu with titles such as We Were Soldiers, Mission Impossible 1 and 3, Payback and Shooter.
We Were Soldiers is a moving starring many talented actors like Mel Gibson, Greg Kinnear and Sam Elliott. This is just to name a few. It is a rather violent and bloody movie but you are guaranteed to sit on the edge of your seat during the entire movie, or at least from when the battle begins. Despite being a war movie you are also being told a underlining story of how the wife's and families are coping with the loss of their husband/dad. A well directed movie that I will enjoy watching despite having seen it before.
Mission Impossible 1 and 3 really does not need an introduction. The popular franchise has been well received by the film critics. One more than the others but all are fun to watch. Netflix bought them just shortly after Mission Impossible 4 was playing in the cinemas. One of the best action movies of the year. The interest of number 4 in the series will no doubt rub of on Mission Impossible 1 and 3 which is probably why Netflix bought them in the first place. Use the popularity to increase revenue. You cannot blame them for doing so. It is only natural and besides that I am sure we Netflix customers are happy with the opportunity to re-watch the old Tom Cruise flicks.
Payback is another Mel Gibson movie and because he is starring in it it is almost safe to say that that alone is enough to make it good. Mel Gibson rarely stars in boring movies and I enjoy his acting tremendously which is probably more difficult these days as the bad stories hit the news paper. I just remind myself that I watch his films for entertainment and nothing else. Payback is not your ordinary action movie as it not only about fight scenes but also double crossing with some humor thrown into the mix.
The last action movie recently added to Netflix is Shooter starring Danny Glover and Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg plays a sniper who has to clear his name with the help of a FBI Agent. An exciting movie with some twists that keeps you interested all the way through till the end. That is a rather rare thing to find in action movies these days.
I might just have to update my list of the best action movies on Netflix [http://www.bestflixmovies.com/best-netflix-movies/10-best-action-movies-on-netflix/] to reflect these new titles acquired by Netflix. If you are not in the mood for action movies then feel free to visit my site and check out my list of films in other genres like Romance, Comedy, Thriller and Drama.

When it comes to the success of a movie, there are several factors that contribute to it. While some people believe that a movie cannot be popular without a great story, others believe that the direction is extremely important. An important factor that everyone agrees on, however, is the visual appeal of a movie. Naturally, if the graphics of a movie are disappointing, people might not even want to watch it. Bad graphics can make an otherwise great movie unsuccessful. This is particularly true in the case of animated movies. You can see that all popular animated movies have great graphics. Here are some favorite animated movies that had a great visual appeal.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - Everyone knows the latest Batman and Dark Knight movies. Before these came into being, however, Batman was popular as an animated movie. With Batman and Joker's ideal combination, the movie was a common favorite for several years. It was the first to introduce the legendary characters to the audience. Also, undeniable as it is, the movie had great graphics.
Finding Nemo - This is yet another movie that continues to be a common favorite even after several years of its initial release. While the movie revolved around a dark tale, it did a great job on making people laugh. With the movie's underwater setting, the graphics were particularly important for its success. Along with extraordinary voiceover actors and the touching storyline, the graphics made the movie a major success.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Snow White was yet another classic that can never be forgotten. Based on a very popular fairytale, it was the first ever full-length animated film. It was released at a time when people were used to watching small and simple cartoons. It broke through this tradition and proved to be a major success. Naturally, because of the popular story, the expectations were high. The film met all of these expectations.
The success of these movies and that of several other all-time favorites can be partly attributed to their graphics. The graphic designers of any animated movie are major contributors. This is because there are no real people in these movies and their success entirely depends on how well the idea is executed through the use of a computer. Meanwhile, France insists that 40 percent of mainstream broadcasters' content must be in French, while existing SVoD providers - including Canal Plus' "Infinity" and Wild Bunch's "Filmo TV" - are currently forced to wait 36 months after a film's cinema release before they can stream that content online. These rules - the so-called "Cultural Exception" - mean that France retains a healthy film and music industry despite fierce competition from the Anglo-Saxon world. And while some commentators have said this model is outdated as ever-increasing numbers of people get their audiovisual entertainment online rather than from more traditional TV and radio media, France is nevertheless continuing to do all it can to protect its homegrown industries.
As mentioned above, despite these hurdles, Netflix eventually started offering SVoD services in France, the toughest foreign market to enter as of yet, during the fourth quarter of 2014. At MIPCOM 2014, Netflix chief content officer Sarandos went on record for saying that viewer behaviour, in Germany and France, was "on par with our successful launches elsewhere in the world" and that Netflix prison dramedy 'Orange is the new black' was the most watched show on the SVoD service in all of the six new European territories. Sarandos added that the viewing mix in Europe - about 70 percent television series and 30 percent feature films - was also similar to that on Netflix services around the world. Therefore, the major threat to SVoD providers, and their more traditional video distributors, lies elsewhere.
The culprits: illegal video streaming programs and providers
While the illegal downloading of music has decreased compared to previous measurements (about a quarter of people who use music streaming services still download music illegally, compared to 32 percent in September 2014), 35 percent of people who use SVoD services are still downloading movies and TV series illegally. This is according to the study Trends in Digital Entertainment, from January 2015, which is conducted by GfK and appears once per quarter. Some illegal SVoD providers are alive and kicking such as Time4popcorn. They offer SVoD services to members of the public, on the internet, without having paid proper and agreed licensing royalties to the owners of the rights in the video content which is being streamed on their channels.
One of these illegal SVoD providers was Aereo.com, which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings in November 2014. In June 2014, the US Federal Supreme Court handed down a decision in ABC v Aereo. Aereo, a TV-over-the-internet service, had introduced a disruptive business model, using thousands of very small antennas stored in a warehouse, to live stream broadcast signals which they had encoded into packets, directly into the home of users. It was sued by the broadcasters (originally including 21st Century Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC) for infringement of their copyright in public performance. Aereo defended its actions claiming that all it did was to provide a device to watch a programme that was already available. The Supreme Court decided in favor of the broadcasters, ruling that Aereo and its cloud-based technology was too similar to a traditional cable company to say that its service did not infringe. The failed watch-TV-on-the-Internet startup Aereo.com may come back though, since TiVo bought its trademarks, domain names and customer list at auction, for the bargain price of USD1 million in March 2015. TiVo could be looking into offering an Aereo-like service but one that is licensed by TV networks[5].
During the AIPPI Congress in September 2014, Elizabeth Valentina, Vice President Content Protection for Fox Entertainment Group, (speaking on her own behalf as Fox was still litigating the case), pointed out that Aereo's business model involved the streaming of broadcast content obtained without permission, authorisation or license, and for which service Aereo were charging their subscribers. This business model was harming that of the broadcasters and content owners, by devaluing their content, interfering with exclusive deals for content to be delivered over the internet and to mobile devices, as well as diverting eyeballs from TV advertising revenue. It was a harm clearly recognised by Judge Nathan at first instance, in the broadcasters' motion for a preliminary injunction. During the same congress, Sanna Wolk (Associate Professor at University of Uppsala, Sweden and co-chair of AIPPI's copyright committee) compared the US position with that adopted in the EU where the CJEU in March 2013 ruled that online near-live streaming by the UK Company, TV Catchup, was an unauthorised "communication to the public" within the meaning of Article 3(1) of Directive 2001/29 (InfoSoc Directive) and therefore an actionable infringement of copyright. The CJEU concluded that as TV Catchup was making the works in the original "terrestrial" TV broadcast available over the internet, and hence using different technical means to retransmit the broadcast, this retransmission was a "communication" within the meaning of the Article 3(1). Furthermore in the circumstances the court did not have to consider whether communication was to a "new public", as the new transmission required an individual and separate authorisation from the copyright owners. While full-blown litigation seems the obvious and mostly-used response to copyright infringement and counterfeiting in video streaming services, it is debatable as to whether an ardent battle against streaming video piracy is worth it. Indeed, drawing on the experience from the inconclusive fight, led by the music industry, against illegal downloads of music tracks offered by peer-to-peer websites in the early noughties, it may be worth biting the bullet and exploring non-legal avenues to this endemic and crippling infringement.

Today was a pretty special day. I finally got hands on time with the new Deadpool game on the PlayStation 3. I've heard quite a bit about this game and the trailers were really clever and funny but the one thing they omitted was the actual game play. I took this as a warning because this game was due out relatively soon. The only hope I had was that High Moon Studios was developing the game, and luckily for us, they did a great job. For the most part.
The level I selected was one of the earlier stages that had Deadpool starting off in the bowels of a sewer. Before you escape the lower levels, you're tasked with assaulting various bad guys with a few short and sweet katana attacks. The attacks were swift and brutal- to my liking- there was a lot of blood and equally generous amounts of dismemberment. Mr. Wade Wilson's jokes were spot-on and acknowledge that he's very much aware that he's in a videogame.
That's actually one of the brighter points in the Deadpool game, the humor. Deadpool has quite a bit to say during combat and you'd want to make sure the volume's up so you don't miss any of it. Many times during the E3 demo I was hacking and slashing my way through various enemies and Deadpool kept throwing out insults or wacky commentary. This title was very faithful to the character, and that's sure to please a lot of fans.
Another feature that was faithful to the comic book character was his healing factor. While you're taking a beating, Deadpool's costume gets ripped and torn along with his skin, revealing a grotesque Wade Wilson. It's very similar to the highly underappreciated X-Men Origins: Wolverine title from 2009. There are ways to get your health back during combat; for example, once you defeat an enemy they might drop a health orb.
One thing I did notice during the E3 demo was the sudden spike of difficulty. As you're progressing through the sewers your adversaries are incredibly easy to deal with but once you're up in a skyscraper they become almost overwhelming. That's when most of the E3 testers died, gave up and walked away. I took the reins and tried it for myself; all you had to do was use Deadpool's firearms. You just have to switch up your tactics - you can't always just slice and dice. It would've been nice to have a subtle change in difficulty, not a sudden slam of trigger-happy baddies surrounding you.
The gun gameplay was your standard over-the-shoulder third person shooter; you can't use cover but there's really no need. Deadpool has access to his dual Uzis, Shotgun and trusty pistols. All seemed very capable. You do need to be aware of your ammunition as well but when you kill something there's a chance for the baddies to drop more. As you kill the AI you'll be awarded points that you can spend on upgrading your Deadpool. The upgrade system was very similar to Beenox's Amazing Spider-Man game that came out last summer. The leveling up skills all seemed useful and powerful. If I had the full game I would definitely try and bump up my prowess with the swords.
I would say the main worries I'd have with the game would either be the difficulty, or the sometimes unruly camera. Often during the gun gameplay I had trouble snapping back to enemies and blasting them away. These aren't major issues though, and the game was incredibly fun. That's what we need in a Deadpool game. He's not Batman. He's a crazy Merc with a Mouth!
In terms of audio and video, they were both what you'd expect. The graphics never impressed me but they were never ugly. The environments at times felt uninspired as you ran through them but most of the time you were more focused on the task on hand. As with the audio, the dialogue was funny but the sound effects weren't anything special. No Hans Zimmer soundtrack for this one.
